March is Music Madness Month.
Ride, ride, ride your bike, safely down East 8th.
Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily,
Save a gallon of a gas!!

Drive, drive, drive a carpool to Cesar Chavez.
Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily,
Save a gallon of a gas!!

Walk, walk, walk to Patwin Elementary.
Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily.
Save a gallon of a gas!!

OK, we'll stop....but get the point?? If we at SAG can write a "song" about alternative transportation, you can too...and we're sure it might even be just a little bit better!!
We are having a special contest for a Watermelon music gift certificate in March. Send us original music you've created(as an mp3), loosely based on alternate transportation, and we'll post it for everyone to listen to. Submittals must pass our PG rating to be posted. The Official Judge will pick a winner in March! Email us your file before March 31st to be considered.

Think you're special?? Like seeing your name in print???
Well saveagallon thinks every member is special but some members have great stories or streaks that are above and beyond the ordinary. Are you one of those kids or adults that ALWAYS commutes, rain or shine? Have you NEVER been driven to school? Let us know, we want to make sure your super efforts are known to our community and include you in our "Member Spotlight". You may just be the one member that inspires another person(s) to begin using alternative transportation!!!

Reminders:
  1. This is a contest for K-12 students in Davis Joint Unified School District. Students only!
  2. You must log miles at least 5 days out of every month to qualify for the Monthly Random Prize.
  3. Contest Dates are October 19th, 2009 to May 31st, 2010.
What miles count in the contest?
Well, any mileage substituting for a trip that normally uses a gas-powered family car qualifies.
For example, these all count as Saveagallon.org miles.
  • Bike/walk to school.
  • Biking to soccer, music, theater, etc...
  • Bus or train taking you to non-school activities.
  • Carpooling*.
* Carpooling is a tricky one. If two or more non-related students are in a car, that counts. Parents driving their children DOES NOT count. However if they stopped and picked up two of your friends, your friends could count that trip as carpooling, but you cannot. If this is too complicated, jump on your bike. That ALWAYS counts. School, sports, and other organized trips that normally use some form of mass transit such as carpool, buses, trains, or air travel also do not count.
